Wanted: Visual Designer with Aspirations of IA Greatness

Room 404: Design Ground ZeroIt’s time to grow the Geniant team! Our clients are asking for more work than we have hours in the day, and that’s great news to us (and you). We’re looking for talented, fun visual designers to work beside. You’ll be responsible for creating elegant comps, of course, and also have the opportunity to grow in a multitude of other areas like information architecture and consulting — just to name a couple.

We’ll be honest with you: Geniant is not for everyone — kinda like sushi. So in the spirit of Jeff Foxworthy, we present you with this list which will help determine if you’d be happy designing at Geniant:

You might be a Geniant-grade visual designer if…

  • You’d like to play a role in developing Geniant’s new and evolving corporate identity. (Obviously, it’s more fun than it sounds)
  • You’ve got a passion for web standards, accessibility, and understand that “big D” Design is a tool for helping to solve business problems in unique and creative ways (and not just pretty pretty pixels).
  • You’re interested in helping get user experience and design-thinking into corporate environments.
  • You have strong feelings about what OS you work in. We give everyone the choice of either Mac or PC. Ain’t that great?
  • You love technology. We’re a special blend of both deep technology and UX design.
  • You’d like to work on a wide variety of projects with lots of opportunities to find the projects that are the right fit for your skills and goals.
  • You have a sneaking suspicion that Dallas is one of the greatest places to live & work. (It is!)
  • You love blogging, but don’t mind not being able to blog everything. Sadly, we generally can’t publicly discuss the details of every project we work on. This requires that we have small egos.
  • You enjoy working reasonable 40-hour work weeks and being generously rewarded when your project requires some overtime.
  • You think you’d enjoy the warm conversation and team collaboration going on in our Campfire chat room. Kitchen: that's a lot of drinks.
  • You always pursue perfection, but are realistic when constraints prevent it. Business and technical requirements sometimes create an environment where we can’t always create the best user experiences. Bend like a reed, young grasshopper!
  • You don’t mind working from client locations from time to time. We sometimes work on site at client locations which are usually in or around Dallas.
  • You enjoy getting exposure to the latest and greatest enterprise technology from Microsoft. We work with enterprise-level Microsoft software all the time, and have a healthy relationship with the folks in Redmond. (For the record, we also develop in .NET & Java)
  • You love whiteboards, hate cubicles, and enjoy free drinks. (Non-alcoholic, at least during working hours)

So there you have it. The skinny. The whole enchilada. If you think you’re a fit for Geniant, we’d love to hear from you. Heck, you don’t even have to send us a resume and portfolio right away (but we do love those kinds of emails!). If you’ve got any questions, we’re happy to answer them. You can post them here in the comments, or you can email us at designjobs@geniant.com.

Interrested, but I don’t think there’s a chance you’ll fly me and my girlfriend all the way to Dallas (I’m from tiny tiny Belgium) :-)

    Good luck with your search!

Sounds all like you’re directly asking me to come in, if it wasn’t for that passion for microsoft. Also, I live in Spain, and there’s little to no chance to get me out of here :-)

Tim – I’d love to live in Belgium! I wonder if there’s a designer exchange program somewhere… ;)

Chris – You don’t have to be passionate about Microsoft, just willing to work within those frameworks (sometimes). Not everything we do is based on Microsoft software, but they are big in the enterprise space.

Chris – Well, there is only one position open… :/ Think fast!

Would you ever consider hiring people to work from remote locations?

I’d love to move to Dallas! I live in Portland now and love it, but “The Big D” is so much cooler than Portland’s nickname “Rip City”. I’m pretty sure it has something to do with the Trail Blazers when they were a good basketball team, but as you can imagine, it’s sometimes embarrassing telling people “I’m from Rip City!”

Jon – We occasionally need visual designers on a contractor basis, so by all means let us know if you’re interested in that kind of work. For this position, though, we really need someone to physically be in the Dallas area.

Alain – I grew up as a kid in Eugene. I still have a soft spot for the Pacific Northwest…

You might consider me also for outsourcing. I’d be glad to talk about it over email.
