Adobe Developer Connection shows how powerful Fireworks (my graphics tool of choice) can be for prototyping. If you have wondered how pages, layers, and symbols work, this is a very useful short tutorial.
Interesting, but I wish the example was more practical. For such a project I would do all of this in xhtml/css, especially since it uses a grid-based layout.
It might be more useful for a web-based application’s interface though.
@Marc Falk – Fireworks vs Photoshop is a hotly debated topic. Personally, I side with the Fireworks camp. We have another Fireworks article here that you might be interested in called Enterprise Fire-Flow.

I personally started with Fireworks years ago simply because it allowed me to spend much more time tweaking and perfecting the layout and then doing my rapid image exporting and html exporting into Dreamweaver – that was clearly back in the days of using tables for layouts (I’m CSS only now :)). With that said, I’ve stayed true to FW because it does what it does SO WELL. This quick tutorial of FW in CS4 is another example of how it can make any designers life easier.
It makes my life as a designer easier, faster. I would recommend to Marc, give it a shot… you might be converted.
EMC helps organizations create superior IT environments, from infrastructure solutions all the way up to software development and user experience design.
Mark is an Information Architect and Principal Consultant at EMC in Dallas. His professional life is a Venn diagram, where he lives in the intersection of the folks who wear suits and the designers who wear flip-flops. You can catch his other ramblings on user experience and design at his personal blog, Mark-up.

Thanks for showing me this video. Maybe I should shift to Fireworks, seems nice :)
