Yeah, we’re at it again.
404UXD, formerly The Geniant Blog, is the new home of our Dallas-based user experience group. For those of you following along at home, you’ll know that in the latest episode of our little telenovela we (Geniant) were acquired by EMC last July. And prior to that, in 2006, Geniant acquired Bright Corner, which company was more or less the humble genesis of our UX group.

Very interesting article by Jeff Patton on how UX practitioners have adapted to work in Agile environments. We’ve had mixed experiences with Agile approaches. I realize the benefits to iterations and small changes, but its also hard to balance that with the long term planning sometimes required for things like global navigation. I’m particularly interested in extending what we have tried before for “parallel track development to work ahead, and follow behind.”

We’re in the Microsoft Services Practice here at EMC, but most of us in 404 run VMWare Fusion on our MacBook Pros. When you’re in unity mode, it’s nice that you can cmd-tab between Mac and Windows apps alike, but the Windows icons don’t scale up nicely. Here’s how to fix that . (hat tip: Team Fusion )

Nissan is using an "aging suit" to help designers consider limitations that make operating a vehicle difficult for older drivers. Hopefully, understanding the user's experience will translate directly into improved accessibility. Plus, as mentioned in the video, taking the time to review usability and accessibility challenges in your designs often benefits a much wider range of users than the group you may have initially targeted.

Looks like Microsoft is leveraging their investment in Facebook. We have several clients currently seeking this kind of functionality in SharePoint. Add a portfolio-like function and I think we’d like to see it in SharePoint too.
